Turkey Tortilla Soup

I love soup and I love Chicken Tortilla Soup. When I saw this recipe in my inbox from Better Homes and Gardens I thought what a great way to use that left over turkey. I think I'll try this on the weekend. Sure looks yummy!

Ingredients
3 6-inch corn tortillas, cut in strips
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 cup purchased red or green salsa
2 14-ounces cans reduced sodium chicken broth
2 cups cubed cooked turkey (12 ounces)
1 large zucchini, coarsely chopped
Lime wedges (optional)
Sour cream and cilantro (optional)
Directions
1. In a large skillet cook tortilla strips in hot oil until crisp; remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper toweling.

2. In a large saucepan combine salsa and chicken broth; bring to boiling over medium-high heat. Add turkey and zucchini; heat through. Serve in bowls topped with tortilla strips, lime wedges, and cilantro. Makes 4 servings.

A couple of weeks ago I received a message in my email about trying Tofurky and Gravy Jones Soda . I thought why not. I have 4 boys and I'm sure they would love to help me out. They love Jones Sodas already so they would be great taste testers for a new flavor. On Saturday I went to my mail box and I found a bright green box with my sample and fun turkey hat. On Sunday everyone was home so I took pictures of everyone with the soda and turkey hat on. My oldest son just loved the turkey hat. He works at a local grocery store and will be working the day before Thanksgiving and can't wait to wear the turkey hat to work that day. I'll have to stop in and see him with the hat on working. The other boys are fighting over who will wear it on Thanksgiving day. Next I went in and took out a small glass for each of us to sample the Tofurky and Gravy Jones Soda. I have to say I was very worried about what it would taste like. The color really looked like gravy. I'm sorry to say we didn't really like it and I don't think we will be buying any in the future. My boys love Green Apple and Cotton Candy flavored Jones Sodas. I guess they like their soda's sweet. I feel bad that we didn't like it but we sure had fun doing our taste testing.

We have a new Kitty

On Tuesday like any other Tuesday I went to work. Little did I know I would be coming home with a very cute, very small kitty. One of the other girls at work came in tell us about the kitty that cryed on her door step all night. They already have a cat and a dog so their wasn't room in their house for another animal. She wanted to know if I would like to have a kitty for my family. For some reason I said yes. We went that afternoon over to the barn that her husband had taken the kitty to. I had my fingers crossed that it was still there. As soon as we stepped out the the car we saw the little kitty and heard the little kitty with the big meow. She is now very happy and at home here with us. She has everyone in this family catering to her every need. The boys ended up calling her Smokei (with a "i" because it's a girl) because of the beautiful gray color.

I don't have a dirty house but my house seems to have lots of stuff on the floor all the time. I guess it has to do with 4 kids not taking their shoes off like they should. XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Peanut Butter Blossoms Cookies

This once again came from my friends over at Better Homes and Gardens. I just can't say enough about the wonderful emails I have been getting from them. I have not made these cookies yet. Anything with chocolate and peanut butter will be loved at my house. Maybe I'll make them for Thanksgiving to take over to my SILs.

Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Milk chocolate kisses or stars
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening and peanut butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour.

2. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in the 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into each cookie's center. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool. Makes 54 cookies.

To store: Place in layers separated by waxed paper in an airtight container; cover. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Peppermint Swirl Ornament

What You'll Need
Felt: white and red
Fabric glue
Polyester fiberfill
9-inch length of lime-green rickrack
1-1/2-inch-wide picot-edged lime-green satin ribbon
Black curtain clip

How to Make the Peppermint Shape

* Download the circle and swirl patterns by clicking on the link below.
* Trace both the circle and swirl-circle onto tracing paper and cut out.
* Draw two circles on white felt and two swirl-circles on red felt, and cut out the shapes.
* Using fabric glue, adhere a red swirl to each white circle, let dry.
* Machine-sew the swirl-circles felt onto the white circles.
* Place the assembled circles with wrong sides together.
* Sew the together, stuffing the shape with fiberfill before sewing the circles closed.

How to Top It Off

* To make a knotless bow, first fold the rickrack in half and sew it securely to the edge of the circle.
* Fold the green ribbon back and forth, forming two same-size loops and two tails.
* Gather the ribbon in the center and tie it with the rickrack to secure the ornament.
* Clip the hook over the center of the bow for a hanging loop.

After reading all that Charter On Demand has to offer I have to say "I HAVE TO HAVE IT"!

Yep I'm one of those girls that likes all the gadgets. The bad news is so is my husband. On top of our TV which is huge something like a 60 inch wide screen is a pile of equipment. We have 2 DVD players, the Directv box and DVR box, a receiver for the surround sound, I think we even have a old VCR just in case the kid's want to watch one of the old movies and I know there is more. I don't have any idea how they all work or are connected to make them all work. That is my husbands department. Oh, I should add that we also have clickers for all these items lined up on the table.

I'm sure we are not the only people that have all this stuff piled up.

Handmade Tag

Cover a plain tag in kraft paper for a neutral background. Then add a tree shape (cut from paper or purchased at a scrapbooking store) to the front with hot glue.

Once again this was sent to my email box from Better Homes and Gardens. They have such great easy idea's for the holidays. This one shows a tree but I was thinking of all kinds of ideas for things I could make with scrapbooking paper for this project.

I know this movie won all kinds of awards, that is why I hadn't watched it till now. I normally don't like movies that win awards. Well this one I loved. I like how the story was told, I liked how it was filmed, I really don't have a bad thing to say about it. If you have been holding out thinking this isn't really a good movie GO rent it and watch it! I'm giving this movie 5 stars out of 5

Let It Glow
Turn paper bags into dramatic luminarias by cutting out your own designs with a crafts knife, hole punchers, and scissors. Then wait for dusk, fill the bottom with sand, and drop in a tea light to bring your walkways to life. (Use battery-powered votives if you're not going to be at home while these are on display.)

We live by a little town of Oak Grove. On Christmas Eve the houses put luminarias along the side of the road. With a fresh snow it is just beautiful.

My Trick or Treater's

I have 4 boys but 3 of them are getting older and Halloween isn't sure a big deal to them. This year I only had my Youngest and Oldest dress up. My oldest had to dress up for work and was a 50's greaser (I thought he looked like Edd Monster). My youngest was just a cowboy. He wanted something he could be warm in and still move around and run in. A cowboy worked.

Where we live we don't get any Trick or Treaters. We go into town to a friends house to trick or treat. We have been doing this for years. The dad's go out with the kid's and us mom's hang out at the house and hand out candy. What are you doing tonight?

Leafs, Leafs Everywhere Leafs

It is fall here in Michigan and that means the air gets colder and the leafs on the trees turn all shades of color. Then the leafs fall off the trees all over the lawn. We have many beautiful huge oak trees around our house. In the past couple of day thousands of leafs have fallen.

What is so surprising is how many leafs that are still on the trees with so many on the lawn.

It has been raining every other day and the leafs are wet. Today we had a dry day and we wanted to get some of these leafs off the grass. I really don't mind raking and making piles of leafs for the kid's to jump in. My little guy helped with the leaf blower well after dark.

Jr. Football Season Has Come To a End :(

Last Saturday was My Little Guys last football game for the 2009 season. It was a cold rainy day but when you are a 11 year old boy playing football, you don't care. If your mom in the stands your freezing. My Little Guys just like his brother Son #2 just loves football. This has been a hard season for him but he has really learned a lot and has grown as a football player. They won their last football game what a great way to finish a season. I went home with one very happy kid that day.
